The English Bull Terrier
The English Bull Terrier is a big, bullish dog that can run, jump and yet seldom runs to fat. His agility, athleticism and sheer power are what keep him going.
Recommended diet for ‘bullie’ breeds to keep them slim and enhance their performance is the type of all-in food that’s rich in fibre, carbohydrate, essential fats, eggs, seawood, calcium and vitamins.
The English bull terrier and other Bulldog-related breeds are prized for their intelligence and stamina. But they’re just big softies at heart, who crave human companionship.
Give him back his dogs
Imagine then, how Peter Andre, the Australian reality star must have felt when his two adored bulldogs were sold behind his back.
If reports in The Sun (British newspaper) are to be believed, his ex-wife, glamour model Katie Price (Jordan), sold his dogs in secret. Peter and the children worshipped Hugo and Pepsi and when the marriage broke he is alleged to have been devastated, saying that all he had wanted were his dogs and his cars. The children, apparently, were inconsolable.
Ripping your ex’s Savile Row suits is one thing, but separating him from his two beautiful dogs is quite another. How could anyone be so heartless? Poor bloke.
When Coal is white
The Drontal calendar for 2009 features several dog heroes. One is an all-white American bulldog called Coal.
Coal? Okay, so it’s a quirky name, but no more quirky than the strange practice (mainly in Ireland) of calling a giant of a man Shortie, or a very ancient individual Baby.
Coal, who lives with his owner Reg Walker in Middlesex, England is described as ‘Trailblazer of the Year’ because he’s a dog in a million.
At the age of eight, Coal developed a cancerous tumour in his left forepaw. The cancer spread and amputation was on the cards.
Guarding the Royal Albert Hall
Bulldogs are heavily-chested and there was no way Coal could have supported his body on one forelimb. The alternative was euthenasia.
Reg was distraught and trawled the internet until he found a remarkable vet called Noel Fitzpatrick, who fitted the dog with an artificial leg.
Now Coal has the world’s most advanced prosthetic limb.
That’s not his only claim to fame, either.
Because Reg is a security officer and Coal is allowed to accompany him when on duty, he’s the only dog to go backstage at the Royal Albert Hall. And he was definitely the only dog at Live 8.
Drontal (manufacturers of Drontal Plus worming tablets) are always happy to hear of success stories like Coal’s.
