Common Mistakes when Training a Dog
One thing that a lot of people seem to forget when they try and train a dog is that the puppy is not like humans and won’t behave in the same way as you or I. You need to understand that when your dog does something that you don’t like it isn’t doing it to spite you or to annoy you with is doing it because it doesn’t know any better. Training your dog is your responsibility and you need to take the blame for everything that your dog does. If your dog does something that you don’t like then you should consider that failure of your training and work hard to make sure the dog knows what is right and wrong.
First of all, shouting at your dog is unlikely to have the effect that you want. This is one occasion where people think that by shouting at their dog it will realise that it’s doing something wrong because that’s how humans would react. On the other hand, even if the dog is getting negative attention it is still getting the attention that it craves so it’s more likely to keep doing what it was doing.
Some people also resort to physical violence to try and get the dogs to do what they want. This will definitely not help and will only make things worse. Not only will the dog feel unsettled and scared about doing the wrong thing but it will also harm your relationship with the dog. In some cases this harm cannot be undone so you should never resort to physical punishment when trying to train a dog or under any circumstances. Instead, make sure you understand the training a dog is a long-term process and something that you need to have patience when doing. Always keep your cool when you are training your dog. You should also never consign the dog to a dog kennel and run as a punishment either because that will mean it’s place of sanctuary is somewhere it thinks of as a punishment.
